Communication during your massage
There were so many instances when I first started out as a massage therapist where I would have a client come in and tell me during the session that everything was ‘fine’ & ‘okay’ only for them to leave and never return again. I thought that it was just as simple as me as the therapist asking the client what they thought about things like, pressure, sensations or room temperature etc and that was all I had to do on my end for communication.
Let me tell you, you can have all of the forms in the world, the most detailed chats, all of the possibilities mapped out during a session and sometimes the client is just going to feel unsatisfied with your work. This does however tend to reduce drastically with the more communicating a massage therapist & client does.
The body looks roughly the same person to person, but it is not. Not at all.
As a Massage Therapist it’s my job to figure out what you need as a client. As a client it’s your job to inform me enough about what’s going on so I can figure that out. Together we then come up with something that resembles roughly what you want & what you need all bundled up in one pleasant package.
Communication is actually the first & probably most important piece during any massage. Massage therapists do and can read people perhaps better than others but we can’t read minds! Your body will say a lot but it will also hide things too until it’s lulled into a sense of safety and security. This is why when you have those relaxey loosey goosey sessions you tend to feel better as a whole & not just in your muscles.
