When do you need to get a remedial massage?

Timing is everything right?

I'm sure that if you've dabbled in anything massage related in the past few years you're probably familiar with remedial massage and what it entails.

If you haven't...Remedial Massage is a targeted approach to pain & tension relief which looks at the big picture of you and your body whilst also taking into account your specific problem area and sensations. It can involve orthopaedic testing, deep tissue, Swedish massage, active stretching and much more...

Some of the more common issues that massage therapists see Is a general level of tension that when left untreated leads to joint pain at rest and during movement. If you're someone who has experienced a mild level of say back tension or a severe amount of hip & sciatic pain for example...then it begs the question. When is the best time to actually get your Remedial Massage?

I have conversations with my clients about this everyday & quite often they have been told by other practitioners or chiropractors that they need to be going somewhere several times a week! Which in an ideal world is feasible, but it's not realistic for many people to be spending that kind of change each week. Typically if you feel one area in pain then you definitely want to come by as soon as possible. You could say the goal of the treatment is to have you not come back...but some acute issues like frozen shoulder or carpal tunnel can get relief in one session but not cured without a few at least.

If you just feel tense...then it's up to you. In most cases tension left alone ends up leading to pain later on as one area of the body being tight leads to other areas working harder to compensate...then leading to more tightness and then eventually you just crumple over into some kind of human-armadillo hybrid that rolls on its merry way.

What do I personally recommend?
The best time to get a massage is whenever you can if you feel sensations of tension. If you're in pain book in straight away. Tension leads to more pain but pain takes too long to go back to tension on its own.

One massage a month is a healthy dose of bodywork for most people however ideally I do think once a fortnight is the way to go.

You can work on more areas and free up more general widespread tension in the whole body that way as an hour a month can typically just be for maintenance.
