Does Posture Really Matter?
Is my posture really that big of a deal?
The answer is, yes, Yes it is.
Posture matters and Posture is a big deal, let me explain…
Posture can be referred to as the position which you hold your body in while sitting or standing. Now, obviously there are slight differences to each but the premise of posture is just the alignment of your body when you are naturally existing.
To clarify a little more, you could naturally fall into a somewhat neutral position or perhaps bad posture, or you might have great posture! The difference between these can be enormous. Poor posture promotes overfatigue and overtensioning of certain muscles, impingements, spinal deviations and just general tightness. Good posture is about being able to keep your body in a healthy, natural position at rest without overfatigue.
The top 3 forms of poor posture that I usually deal with are…
Rounded shoulders and a weakened back
Anterior tilt of the pelvis causing a tight lower back
Forward head caused by upper back rounding from desk work
There are many minor and major postural deviations but the tell-tale signs of postural related issues is problems with pain and tension specifically while standing or sitting. Good posture prevents these issues and bad posture will exacerbate them.
