Plantar Fasciitis. The worst foot pain of all time. OF ALL TIME.
Suffering from foot pain?
Have you ever looked down at your feet and thought, damn, nature be wild? No? Just me?
It’s like hands but for your legs.
Unfortunately these leg hands get sore from time to time but sometimes that soreness is actually indicating toward a bigger problem. Yes you heard it here first, or probably second…folks.
PLANTAR FASCITIS. The worst possible soft tissue condition you would never wish upon even the people who cut you off in traffic.
For those unfamiliar, plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar, meaning foot (planting when you walk) fascia (connective-esque soft tissue)
Inflammation is normal from time to time, your body does its thing to protect you and get rid of all the baddies but when you are required to walk, jump, run, simply move in any direction…you use your feet. Nonstop. Constantly. Every single day!!! If you’ve ever experienced pain in the feet of any kind before, you’ll know that walking is just that extra bit of hell carved out for you. You have to walk, you can’t just sit around…but with each step, agony.
To take a look at what is actually going on with the foot when you get plantar fasciitis we kind of need to visit fascia in general.
Fascia is a relatively new discovery (i.e past ~20 years) in mainstream anatomy. It is a type of connective tissue spread throughout the body in pretty much every conceiveable way. It’s between individual muscle fibres, then wrapping around each bundle….and then each whole muscle as a whole too! Literally allover.
Most of my clients know I ill be upfront and think outside of the box when it comes to treating muscles and their conditions. I believe that plantar fasciitis is actually connected in some part to your hip & pelvis!
When you suffer from a relative amount of anterior pelvic tilt, or an exaggerated lumbar curve…you’ll have extra tension put on your posterior fascial chain below the hip. This connects into the foot and would make it harder for those connective tissues to do their job! They will already be under tension constantly! Just the wrong kind.
So what can we do about plantar fasciitis?
The 3 best things you can do;
Roll a golfball under your foot to loosen the local tension.
Stretch your quads & hip flexors ironically to allow your pelvis to drop posteriorly (Letting the hammies relax)
Stretch the anterior side of your shin by pointing your toes to take the anterior tension away!
Oh and…get a massage!
Just head on over to the booking page and we’ll get that plantar fascia sorted in no time at all!
