The difference between Male & Female Massage Therapists…

Masseur vs Masseuse, how different are they?

Answer: Very Little.

Long Answer: …

The most important massage component is that you, the client, feel comfortable. If you are not comfortable and can’t switch off, your muscles will not elongate on their own. Everyone has different comfort needs from temperature to neck support, air conditioning to oils & pressure etc. Although it can differ greatly there is generally a standard most people hang around.

Some people put more emphasis on particulars to do with the therapist which will make them feel comfortable or uncomfortable and perhaps the biggest one is gender.

The gender of the massage therapist has almost nothing to do with the massage itself because there are different aspects which apply to both genders. I’ve seen small female massage therapists put more pressure in than tall & large male therapists. Men with soothing touch & women with rougher tough etc. There is no general rule between the genders. What this means is that a good massage for you will come down to an individual preference that you must decide if you like therapist A or B.

As a man working in this industry, there a plenty of instances where women don’t want to be massaged by a masseur because of misconceptions or premeditated thoughts and feelings, past experiences and so forth. There are also men who don’t feel comfortable with a male massage therapist!

This is also inversed although less so for female massage therapists. Some female clients prefer a masseur over a masseuse because of their thoughts & feelings towards massage performed by a male vs a female. Although again there is little difference, it does apply to both genders! Some men don’t feel women can put enough pressure in and so off they go to the nearest masseur.

If you have never had a massage from a male or female, certainly give both a try! You might be surprised to find you typically like the opposite gender better, but again, it’s more than likely just your personal preference because realistically, a good massage therapist is just that. No more & no less.
