What are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are nasty! What are they though? Where did they come from? Who are they looking for?!
Let’s talk about the giant pain in the room.
Trigger points are described as hyper-irritable taut nodules of muscles which can cause pain on their own or when touched. In Other words…Sore muscle knots.
Most muscular pain is actually caused by these tight nodules of muscle as they lead to general muscle restriction and mobility issues if left untreated.
There are two type of trigger points; Latent & Active
Active Trigger Points
Cause pain constantly
Can Refer pain to other parts of the body
Feel more intense than a latent trigger point
Greatly restrict muscles
Cause weakness and reduced muscular abilities
Latent Trigger Points
Cause pain only when touched or pressed
Do not refer pain to other parts of the body
Feel achey but not as intense as an active trigger point
Moderately restrict one muscle
Cause a small amount of weakness but you still have near full use
When you get trigger points relieved, the entire muscle belly will typically relax bar no general tissue restrictions.
