What is Remedial Massage?
I see the uncertainty people have about Remedial Massage fairly often. What is it? Why do I need it? Is it just something made up? Are you just selling something extra?
The truth is that Remedial Massage stems from the societal need for effective massage therapy. Everybody who has ever had a massage knows exactly what it’s like to get a poor one. You leave the session feeling not that great. You were subtly let down. You could have had better, if only…
Remedial Massage is a finer, precise approach to tightening up the bolts and screws in your body. It’s effective, it’s deep, it lasts longer and it also just gives you a better sense of wellbeing. Like something meaningful has actually happened to you for those 60 or 90 Minutes of your session.
It’s a process of figuring out what the problem is and then getting to work on resolving it. You might have stress or tension, back pain, shoulder pain etc. Depending on what’s happening and how long it has been going on, you’ll get your posture looked at, orthopaedic testing, range of motion testing or various other assessments done. This is to gather information about what’s going on in your body.
After that it’s time to get down to the business of actually helping you feel better. Remedial massage is all about giving a remedy so, in whatever form that remedy comes, you’ll get it! Stressed people might just get relaxation work. Maybe your back is so tight you need deep tissue. The shoulder is stiff? Myofascial Release is ready for you. There are many different ways to treat the problems that present, but rest assured, the best one will be implemented.
The goal is to help you feel better, and even though massage won’t make you feel weightless, it can come damn close.
